Midsummer Fun

Here are a few photos I thought I'd share of some highlights of our activities last weekend. We went to a local (very small) Swedish Midsummer's Festival put on by an old friend of the family on their family farm.

A view of the entrance of the farm.
David Sealander, our host and a friend of my father's. They served in the Idaho Conservation League together back in the 1970s.

Wagon rides were the main attraction.

We went twice!
Swinging at Sealander Park.

Making daisy chains to decorate the Maypole.

Evangeline and the daughter of my friend Jenni.
A four-foot long gopher snake, whom I caught, but quickly let go, as he was a little skittish.

We had to leave before dancing around the Maypole, as the little Master was tired and wanted to go home, but we enjoyed ourselves very much.

  1. Dear Marqueta,

Hello my fellow romantic! I am so glad you visited my blog and left such a sweet comment! I have been visiting your blog and am enjoying it so much. So, I would like to thank you for making the world a better place!

You and your daughters are so beautiful and your husband and son are so handsome! What a lovely family you all are! I love to dress feminine and modest always wearing skirts and blouses, and dresses. I love wearing aprons too! I see you and your daughters dress that way all the time. That is so wonderful!!! Did you use a pattern for your apron, or make it up on your own? I have always wanted to make an apron like that! I like how the straps go over your shoulders to the waistband instead of tying round the neck.

Your trip to the farm looked like such fun! Your gardening is coming along so nicely! I love Tasha Tudor and was so saddened to hear of her passing. I have many of her books and enjoy them so much. I also love reading Laura Ingalls Wilder books! We have much in common. I appreciate you sharing excerpts from your vintage books and magazines. I look forward to reading through your archives and visiting you again!

You have such a happy family!
    The Lord bless you!
    Paula

  2. Hello Paula!

    Thanks for your lovely comment!
I made my apron following instructions found on the Sense and Sensibility website. It's basically a rectangle across the chest, a big rectangle for the skirt, and then two straps that are made like tubes and then turned right-side out. I think you can still find the instructions on that site.
