Curing Spring Fever

Dear Friends,

Since the weather has been so nice the last couple of days, and the forecast is calling for more snow, we thought we'd take the chance to get out and see how our favorite nature spots were doing.

We had hoped to find some nettles peeking up down by the Snake River, but everything was still asleep . . .

Except for the monkeys at the park, of course!

After playing and picnicking for a bit, we decided to go to Wolverine, where we were sure that the watercress would be available for picking!

Watercress is full of vitamin C and other nutrients our bodies need so much after a long winter; just be sure to pick them in a clean area!

We hope that this cottonwood tree survives being munched on by a porcupine~

Farther up the canyon, the creek still lies covered in snow and ice~so beautiful~

AnnaMarie went looking for adventure, and found. . .

Lots of burr babies waiting for a ride!

Evangeline looks pretty happy with the rock she found!

And we found this pioneer girl named Tasha among the rabbit brush.

Tonight looks like a good night to try out potato/watercress soup with watercress salad, and tomorrow we'll try juicing watercress with our carrots and have watercress sandwiches for St. Patrick's Day Tea! That should boost our immune systems, eh?

Thanks for your friendships and sweet spirits; we pray that you are having a wonderful spring-like week, as well!

Love,

Marqueta

"Would you be strong? go follow up the plow;

Would you be thoughtful? study fields and flowers;

Would your be wise? take on yourself a vow,

To go to school in Nature's sunny bowers.

Fly from the city; nothing there can charm:

Seek wisdom, strength and virtue on a farm"

  2. Oh, Yikes! Cockle Burrs! My brothers used to like to through them at me and have them stick in my hair. Oh how awful it was to get them out! Ouch! Hope none found their way into AnneMarie's hair!
    I have no idea what Watercress looks like. It sounds refreshing and the perfect thing for an after Winter tonic!
    Blessings!

  7. My dearest friend,

    What a lovely walk you had with the children!

    Yes, watercress - berro in spanish, is absolutely delicious! And you are able to get it growing wild...isn't Our Lord amazing?

    I am so glad that you were able to go out and about and enjoy the sunshine and the beauty that surrounds you.

    Con mucho carino,

    Maria

  8. Well girls! It looks like you are surely ready for Spring!! Thank you so much for stopping by ButtonWillow during one of your excursions. You know, I have heard, that all of you behave yourself to the most degree whilst frolicking around the grounds of the cottage. I can't tell you what a relief that is to all those in the small dwellings. It's so hard on them when ones go stomping and tromping and tearing about their homes without a whisp of a care for them. On one of your visits Sister Mouse was preparing her new spring tea mix and heard voices of wee ones about... she was so concerned that as they walked past her little shop that it would knock all the wares from the shelves, but she reports that you were ever so careful and not one flower or herb was displaced. Tea time on the first day of Spring will be a complete success I'm quite sure.
    Do keep behaving in such a mannerly way, wont you? It is just so nice to hear tales from the small dwellers about your tiptoeing and giggling.
    Warm smiles to all of you in your household.
    Stop by any time, you know the gate is always open.

Looks like so much fun wish we could have joined you...oh the burs we have lots of those around here as well I am curious to see what kind of burs the wild cucumber will make that is growing everywhere in our yard.
