"Fairyland"

"The woods are just behind our house,
And every afternoon at four
I go to pick the lovely flowers
That grow right up beside the door;
Nurse says that just old weeds are there~
I call them Garlands for Queen's hair.

The woods stretch westward far away;
The trees are very tall and green;
They grow on little dimpled hills,
With grassy hollows in between.
Nurse says our woods aren't very grand~
I think that they are FAIRYLAND.

Dear Friends,

We wish these woods were behind our house, but alas, we had to drive to get there!

We snacked on sweet rose hips~

But avoided these pretty nightshade berries!

The water in the pond was as clear as glass~

And the clouds were buttermilk and feathers.

The crowning even was seeing a pair of bald eagles, fishing in the river~
Can you see them, one in the air and one with a fish in its talons (You may want to click on the image to get a better view!)

We are so grateful that the eagles are increasing in numbers. Many people have sacrificed much to preserve these magnificent birds.

We wish we had a close-up of this eagle in the middle!

We hope you enjoyed coming to the woods with us today~Thank you, as always, for your friendship and love. May you be filled with peace today.

Love,

Marqueta

  1. What a wonderful way to spend the day - and the poem is just delightful! Did you have to drive far to reach this beautiful place? We usually have to drive to the mountains to find forest places. I love spending the day in nature and it looks like you had a wonderful time!

  3. What a great trip! I just love setting off on an adventure with the children. One of my fave things to do! Love the pictures of the bald eagles you got some great shots that must have been awesome to watch, they are one of my favorite birds. I used to enjoy watching them up in Alaska. We even got to view some in the Florida Keys when they were mirgrating. How cute seeing the children all bundled up, with their hoods on. Fall seems to have really rushed in this year or did it leap to winter?

  4. Looks like you had the pleasantest of days in the woods! We do have some just beyond our barn and I love walking there all times of the year. Just like Pooh, I call it the Hundred Acre Woods (because there is about that much land/woods.) There seems to always be some little surprise awaiting discovery!
    Oh, Marqueta ~ I just now see you have an Etsy Store!!!! I am so excited! When did you open? And you have your wonderful Chatelaines! I wonder just how late I am but hearty congratulations on your store!
    Blessings!

  8. Dear Marqueta,

    Thank you for sharing those lovely pictures. I wish I could see that place in person! I love the pictures of the eagles. I did enlarge and yes I could see them! I've never seen one in the wild. They are few around here. You are giving your children something that money can't buy!

    Love,
