At the Zoo

Dear Friends,

We're so glad you came to visit today~Would you like to join us for a trip to the zoo?

A.A. Milne -

"At the Zoo"

There are lions and roaring tigers,
and enormous camels and things,
There are biffalo-buffalo-bisons,
and a great big bear with wings.
There's a sort of a tiny potamus,
and a tiny nosserus too -
But I gave buns to the elephant
when I went down to the Zoo!

There are badgers and bidgers and bodgers,
and a Super-in-tendent's House,
There are masses of goats, and a Polar,
and different kinds of mouse,
And I think there's a sort of a something
which is called a wallaboo -
But I gave buns to the elephant
when I went down to the Zoo!

(Apparently peacocks are zoo employees!)

If you try to talk to the bison,
he never quite understands;
You can't shake hands with a mingo -
he doesn't like shaking hands.
And lions and roaring tigers
hate saying, "How do you do?" -
But I give buns to the elephant
when I go down to the Zoo!

Pioneer Day Fun!

Dear Friends,

The family had a fun time at the local Pioneer Day celebration, even though we were the only ones dressed up (Except, of course, for the occasional cowboy hat)~

There was Square Dancing,

Lots of green grass to run on

And of course, a pie-eating contest!

One of my favorite stories about our pioneer ancestors is the young girl who, while traveling on a wagon train, had to hide under blankets from the Indians, who wanted to marry her. The pioneers made a fake coffin and had a "burial" for her, since more than one brave desired her as his wife!

p.s. Here's a little story to help encourage the little ones to form good habits!

Love,

Marqueta

"He has surrounded us with the elements containing wheat, meat, flax, wool, silk, fruit, and everything with which to build up, beautify, and glorify the Zion of the last days, and it is our business to mould these elements to our wants and necessities, according to the knowledge we now have and the wisdom we can obtain from the Heavens through our faithfulness".

Happy Pioneer Day!

Good morning, Dear friends,

Today in Idaho and Utah we celebrate the 24th of July as the day that the Mormon pioneers first entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. They had traveled west to escape persecutions in Illinois and Missouri, where their homes and farms were being destroyed because of their beliefs.

Both Mr. Graham and I have ancestors who were pioneers, and I am grateful to be a recipient of their sacrifices.

Here is a video we found that shows some of the scenery they passed on their journey west:

We're Alive!

Greetings, Dear Friends,

We thought we'd pop in and let you know that we're still here! We've been having computer problems, which have given us a vacation from posting, although we have missed visiting with you.

We pray that you are all well, and that we will get up and running soon and able to catch up with everyone soon!

'Love,

Marqueta

A Happy Birthday to Tasha

Dear Friends,

Yesterday we celebrated the eighth birthday of our Tasha. We celebrated by going to pick cherries at her Grandma Cherie's, and feeding peanuts to two squirrels that live in Grandma's yard (Too bad we didn't get pictures!).

Tasha hinted that she would like some nature-related gifts, and received quite a few. We think her favorite is the telescope that is supposed to allow her to look at the craters on the moon. She and Audrey stayed up as late as they could last night, waiting for the stars to come out, but alas, the mosquitoes drove them inside before it was dark enough!

Today we'll be out in the gardening, catching up on gardening, picking peas and maybe harvesting some "weeds" to experiment with in the kitchen!

Till next time,

Love,

Marqueta
